have recently mated my bitch. She tied with the dog twice. How common are phantom pregnancies. She is 28 days now. Went to the vet at 25 days and she said she thought she could feel a fetus but was not sure and to bring her back in two weeks time when she would be able to tell. Can it still be phantom even if the vet says she can feel fetuses and surely you would be able to see the pups moving in the later stages.

Hi - because the bitches hormones respond to the part of the brain that governs the wombs cycle - signs of a pregancy i.e. swoalen glands etc will be promenant. My schnauzer has just had a phantom pregancy, she stole some teddies a dead give away! Hope things sort themselves out soon - normally takes a few weeks -

Some times the bitch can carry the pups high up in their rib cage so therefore it makes it difficult to palpate them.
You would not see them moving till arond the 7th week of pregnancy, but if you said that she had a clear discharge coming away from her this is one of the sure signs that she is in Whelp.
Good luck keep us informed.
