Contact the Breed Club secretary Mrs. Nichols on 01530 230313 who will let you know of any litters. You could also contact the KC who keep lists of people with pups. Please buy from a breeder, unless you have owned an Elkhound before you may need lots of suport that you will only get from a breeder. Jackie H.

Most Elkhound Breeders are members of the British ElkhoundClub or Elkhound Association of Scotland. the Scottish club secs. no is 01592 755365 Miss Charleston. The parents should both be Hip Scored and Eye tested (eyes done no more than a year prior to breeding). The Breed Clubs joint code of ethics stipulates that bitches are not bred from prior to two years of age, and have no more than 4 litters in a lifetime, puppies do not leave their mums prior to 7 weeks etc.

In 2000 there were only 102 puppies registered, so availability is patchy, and you should expect to go on a waiting list, if you are found suitable!

Please avoid like the plague a commercial kennel in the North who buys in puppies, some coming from Northern Ireland, where the poor bitches have been bred every season, and have no health checks. Our rescue has had quite a lot of dealings with puppies bought from there.
