I have a very overweight terrier cross who is on a strict diet but i just wondered if anyone knew of any low calorie chews or treats we could give him? i read an earlier post which said that paddywhack is deep fried so i think i'll rule that one out!

You can still give your dieting dog the chews and treats he liked before, but .. you have to remember to reduce the quantity in his main meals - he will not notice.
Also, you can stuff his meals into a kong and let him chew and work at the kong to get his meal. If you feed dry food you can soak the food until it can be mushed up and stuffed into the kong - makes him work harder to get it all.

my sachiko loves peppers raw, seeds n'all

My vet said just feed him half a can of food twice a day with no goodies and there will be no problems. My dog is good on it - even though he does get a cadburys twirl on a saturday night!! Ahh well if only the vets advice was as good for me!!!

There are quite a few fat free treats available for dogs, have a look in your pet shop, or give pieces of carrot or apple as a treat.
Hi amee i also have a hoover, i give him fruit and veg especially carrots and dried tripe sticks

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, his diets still going well ive started trying him with bits of fruit and veg ( ive found out he especially loves apple) and he's a big fan of dried tripe sticks so im allowing him one or two of them a week. Im feeling so guilty though but ive been telling him it will all be worth it when he starts looking more like a dog again and less like a barrel!!
