Please can anyone advise me on the following.
My Great Dane is 7 years old, weighs 14 and a half stone and has just been subscribed Nizoral.
He has a fungal infection in his nails - he has had one nail bed amputated and one nail pulled off (10 days ago) - obviously tone paw still has the infection.
He has been prescribed 200mg tablets containing ketocanazole - he is to take 2 tabs 3 times a day. the vet has warned that he may be sick as a side effect.
I only got the tablets yesterday evening - 2 things worry me
A) If hes poorly
B) The adult dose for humans stated on the leaflet is 2 tabs once a day max.
It seems like a massive dose and I wanted to check to see if this sounded normal. I hav nt given him any of the drugs yet, Please could someone help.
Thanks
Georgie

Why don't you ring the vet & double check the dose if you're worried.

I was sort of hoping to get a second independent opinion or find someone whos been prescribed the same drugs for their dog.
Thanks anyway though.

Hi - why not try another vet? I have Danes, but I don't know of this drug I'm afraid. Alternatively, if youa re still in touch with your breeder you could ask them, or I could give you contact details for a couple of breeders who might help you?

I have only had experience of this drug as a topical application as I suffer from sebhorric dermatitis however, taken internally, this may result in elevated liver enzyme levels which will probably be the reason your dog may be sick.
The website B-naturals may be able to give you some help here.
