Hi, seeing how my doberman bitch has lost her litter I am in need of getting a puppy to train up as her replacment assistance dog. She is getting to old to do the work and in a couple of years I want to retire her to a really rough life of lazying around and playing fetch. I have always had a love of white german shepards and I am wondering if anyone here can give me any advice or experiences they have had with them. My doberman is resting comfortably and is eating and drinking and now wanting to play. I love the doberman breed but My heart has always belong to the white shepard. I knew a couple who had one when I was a kid and thats when I fell in love with them. So any advice, stories or just interesting thoughts are welcome.

As far as I understand it from those who own them, they are no different to the normal colour GSD, just have a non-standard coat which is sometimes of a non-standard type. Think they are easily available, try putting it in to a search engine, only thing I would say is make sure all the normal health tests are done and that the litter has been bred with care in the sort of place you would consider suitable, and not in a shed the dam mated to any convenient dog without care as to the suitability and research into the possibility of the pups getting some sort of heredity complaint or deformity.

Hi Nicole,
I have a white long coat boy who I use at stud, I have bred them for a number of years now, we are members of White And Long Coat Club (WALCSS) I have just had my last litter but he has mated several lovely bitches recently but I can not give details here, I shall see if I can e-mail you personally.
The main difference that I find is how the general public relate to them, wherever I go with my boy people call him over and want to fuss him but when we had our dark boy people would cross the road but he had an equally fabulous temperament. They are prone to all the same problems as other colours. As with all dogs you only get out what you put in, and there are good and bad whites too. Unfortunately many people believe them to be rare and therefore a few people will exploit this and command a high price.
I would always recommend that you had a puppy that was reared indoors and from parents that have low hip scores.
I hope that I have been of help.

The e-mail address of the original poster is available so it would seem the problem is solved.
