Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Toliet training a Cocker Spaniel puppy

Hi Pls help!!!
I have had my Cocker Spaniel puppy a week now (he's 9 weeks old) and he is great except he can't get to grips with toliet training. When I go out or overnight he is confined to the kitchen area and will ony go on his scented training pad but as soon as we let him roam the house he seems to forget the pad is there and just pee's anywhere!! He's fine with number 2's and will go in the garden within 10-15 mins of eating. He has had a couple of nights without a number 2 and so seems to be controlling that - it's just the peeing we can't seem to get sorted out!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Judith

Good lord! Give him a chance - he's only a tiny baby! All the time he's awake take him out at least once an hour, and after a play, after a nap, after food etc, and take him to the same spot in the garden (don't just put him outside, go with him). When he starts to pee outside, give him the 'command' word (we use 'busy') then lots of praise when he's finished. Never leave him roaming the house unattended - you must be watching him all the time if you want to train him in the shortest possible time. But it is likely to be several weeks yet before he is reliably clean.

Totally agree with Jeangenie, he's only a WEE BAIRN, he'll get there eventually it takes a lot of patience and the eyes of a hawk. All Pups are eager to please and he'll cotton on soon enough :)
