Hi champdogs.
It would be very good if you could give me some info on any of these dogs below. We are considering these dogs for our pet, and would like some info.
Kooikerhondje
Caucasian Ovcharka
Partridge Dog
Akbash

Thankyou. i know they are all really different from eachother, but we love them all and we are still in the early stages of deciding. Hope champdogs can help.

Go to Google and type the names in individually and you should be able to get some descriptions :)

Very different dogs Guest! If you like the look of the Drentse Patrijshond, you might also like to check out the German Longhaired Pointer and the Large Munsterlander, who are of the same disposition and type as the Patrijshond but easier to come by :-)

Interesting list - The Akbash and Caucasian Ovcharka are both livestock guardians - big, protective, independent - designed to live with flocks and protect them from wolves and other predators - and they will. Presume you are in the US as neither of these breeds are readily available in the UK.

For more information on livestock guardians see http://www.lgd.org and http://www.flockguard.org/ - loads of info and links there. As to whether they would suit you...
if you have space, understanding (or ideally no) neighbours, don't have people letting themselves in and out of your house (including kids' friends), want a loyal but independent guardian, and don't mind a lot of hair (or keeping the dog outside) then they might. If you want something more easy going, easier to train, more outgoing with strangers etc then you would be better with the gundog breeds.

All the best
Janet

The late Pat Chapman started into Kooikerhondje's just before her death. I remember chatting to her about them at WELKS the year before she died. She was keen to get them established over here. After her death the breed when quiet for a while. A friend brought one about 5 years ago intending to train it but found that it was not making the grade as a working gundog. Since then I've rather lost track of them.

I knew someone who was showing a Kooikerhondje several years ago. Delightful little dog. But I haven't seen any for a while now.
