We have moved in to a new house and are considering buying a dog. We want a breed that is both good with children yet also a good guard dog. My husband has been advised that a cane corso is a suitable breed for us. I however would prefer a English bull terrier although I know this breed sometimes does not make a good guard. Is there anyone that can give me some advice about either of these breeds or of any other breed that we should consider for a guard.

Hi Guest

Please specify exactly what you mean by a guard dog as these have specialist laws attached to them.

It maybe safer to have geese wandering around during the day and an alarm system at night plus a dog as a family pet.

cane corso are good alert dogs-ie they will bark if intruder-however wether a green dog will be a good guard /protector is another issue.the corso would need training for this like any other breed.eng bullterreirs are norm rubbish guards and alert dogs.dont think buying a dog that has a reputation of being a good guard dog that the dog you buy will be one.dogs which are good at guard watever breed goes traing to be a good guard.its rare for a dog watever breed to be a good gaurd if its a green dog(dog that has had no training at all)
