Hi guys,
What should we do if we know of someone that has done back to back breeding?
I don't want to mention any names but I know of someone whose bitch is having her third litter this year.
The first one was planned but the other two are being called ACCIDENTS!
Surely she won't be able to register these pups? I now that the second litter was registered as an accidental litter, but, does the KC limit the amount of accidental litters you can register?

The KC rescinded the rule about needing permisson to breed in under a year (suppose theywere snowed under by exemption requests) and it is only now required by those that have to be registered as licensed breeders under the terms of the Breeding of Dogs Act of 1999, where anyone breeding five or mosre litters in any 12 monht period needs a license, as the law requires a 12 month gap.
The 0only thing the KC will do is not allow more than 6 litters to be registered. Unfortunatly as NON KC registered seem to be very saleable at very little less than KC reg ones, some imoral so called breeders are registering alternate litters only, so the KC does not know how many litters the poor bitch has had.

The KC will register the litters but I have been told by an advisor that the information is passed onto the Inland Revenue and DWP at the agencies request. I know of at least 1 individual in dogs who is being investigated at present due to this info being passed on from the KC, never mind the fact that both agencies are trawling the net and free adds papers looking for puppy farmers and benefit Fraudsters. Maybe when these people are caught and prosecuted the rest of us genuine folk might be left to live in peace again, mind I can't complain I did gain from my investigation and got an apology for their errors.

Please forgive my ignorance but is it physically possible for a bitch to have three litters in one year??

I thought they only came into season twice a year if you're lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it ;) )

A friend told me that one of his bitches comes into season every 4 months,

so although unusual, it's not impossible. But most definitely unwise to breed at each of them
my bitch had pups in july is coming into season again and noway
would i breed from her as she is just getting fully recovered herself,i think it's totally unfair to breed more than once per year, sandra.
I agree my bitch had pups also in july and i am not breeding from her for 2or3 years so she can get in tip top health.

I don't disagree with back to back breeding, i just leave it to the big breeders. If they lose a bitch due to ill health caused by breeding too often its thier problem!

Some bitches, especially German shepherds it seems come in season at more frequent Intervals, anything from 4 to 12 months between seasons is considered normal, and does seem to vary from breed to breed, and between individuals.

So what would you do if you had a bitch which seasons were 10mths or more apart ? mine do - and yes I have done a mating back to back but she only had the one pup 1st time and was in perfect health (vet checked) before the second mating. I dont think it is the back to back that is the issue - I think it is the lack of time in between each litter as the bitch will not have chance to get back into full health before the stress of rearing the next brood.

I know breeders who have liters every 3 months, many litters from back to back matings and then the bitch has an 18 month rest. They get along fine! I't depends on the bitch, the owner and of course the time of year.
I don't do it, can't be bothered with the polava, but those who do do so at their dogs risk!
