At Crufts 2002 I saw the most beautiful, unusual coloured Shar Pei, dark Brown with a definate metallic golden sheen over the top (edges of the hairs?) I was unable to get near enough to talk to the owners as the crush of people was unbelievable. Ever since I have tried to find out what this colour is called (curiosity killed the cat!) but have found nothing on the web at all. It must be an acceptable colour or the dog wouldn't have been at Crufts, but no mention has ever been made. Any Pei owners able to help??
Thanks in advance
Dill

it would either be a chocolate dilute, or a brown sharpei, they do have shading in places,.

Hi Dizzy thanks for that. It wasn't a dilute it was dark brown and there was a golden sheen to the fur but only the tips - it looked like bronze really, dark with this golden sheen all over - spectacular, if it helps it was with a black Shar Pei and that one didn't appear to have a shine on the fur at all. The interesting one didn't seem as big as the black one so it may have been a youngster.

the bitch on my website, chinese whispers [maureen] was called black but she was really brown, depending on her coat she got copper tips or silver ones around her neck and breechings, a fair few of the dark colours have shadings, i thought hers where lovley too,

Dizzy - Seen your dogs, they are lovely :), but sadly maureen is not the colour I am talking about, the colour was not shading as such but was to be seen as the dog moved in the light (bit like a blue burmese type of silvering on the rounded areas - but in this case golden) I so wish I could have followed them and had a chat but we were in the upper area (trade stands) and there were just too many people to keep track of them :(

Sorry Dizzy,
Didn't mean to drive you nuts :D
The dog was definately not black or chocolate or mahogany, it was definately dark brown (+golden sheen). I did try to see the owners number but it had been taken off as they were wandering in the trade stands. One thing I do know, if you saw the colour you wouldn't forget it in a hurry :D I've searched the sites of the breeders known to have been there (crufts results) but nothing came up. Of course it could have been a dog that was unplaced :(
Most of the Peis I have seen have been in the red/gold spectrum so these two really caught my eye.
