I have an 8 week old Great Dane. She has been fed on skinners field and trial. Can anyone
advise me on what would be the best quality food for a dane. The protein in skinners
is very high and am worried it may not be the best for her.

Make sure she is on an extruded food, that is if soaked in water it keeps its shape and doesn't blow up too much. You should be looking at 29-31% protein until she is 12 weeks, then it ought to be lowered to around 26%. This is to stop the bones developing faster than the muscles and giving a gangly legged appearance. Large breeds tend to develope slowly in the musculoskeletar department so it needs to be kept as synchronised as possible with the skeletal development. This was advised by a canine nutritionalist, i'm not just making it up!!!!
I feed Chudleys Puppy 30% protein until 12 weeks, £11.56 mail order and then switch them to Chudleys Junior 25% protein £15.03 mail order. My pups are all well built, with healthy shiny coats, plenty of substance and are satisfied after every meal! I think its great!!!!
have a look at

see what you think!
