We have just got ourselves a gorgeous 5 month old bitch called Lily. She is generally quite well-behaved and will come when called. However, when out on walks, we let her off the lead so that she can have some good runs and due to her obvious hunting nature she quite often manages to find dead animals. This has included rabbits, birds and even a rat. She then eats them and we are worried that this will cause infections. When she finds these animals it is impossible to get her to come to us as she obviously knows she is doing something we don't like. How do we get her to come to us and leave the animal alone? We don't want to be forced to keep her on the lead at all times as she obviously enjoys the freedom when allowed to roam. We would appreciate any helpful hints and tips.
Many thanks

Maybe consider one of thoes long retractable leads - speaking as a mum to a boy who is terified of strange dogs. Just last weekend we were playing in a public park and a dog came charging towards us growling (it was a border collie). You never saw a kid jump so fast into my arms - legs almost around my head!. The whole family laughed it was such a sight! I know that not all dogs are like that. But I have also been in the middle of a dog attack when going for a walk to the corner shop. My Goldie - who was on her leash, was jumped on and bitten on the neck by someones f'..in mutt! (They were inside the shop and had left the dog outside without being tied up, or a muzzle on either!) It didn't help that I was also eight months preagnant at the time! Well that gave me a hand full of grey hair, and a trip to the vet for Jess. I'm just glad that I wasn't right in the middle getting chewed on too. I pulled Jess away, and made a run for it. (picture this, me running down the street with one hand pulling the dog along, and the other hand trying to stop my belly from draging on the ground! - ha ha) So you see your dog may be fine, but what about the other nut case dogs out there! (and there owners too).
The muzzle sounds a darn good idea too, as dead matter will always carry parasites. I would worm him/her more often.
PS: Sorry everyone for the rant, but I feel much better now! :-)
