You could try sneeking a peek in Your Cat magazine or Cat World at WHSmiths :D
Don't know if the cat associations post on the web somewhere?
is it called GCCF or something.
I know some cat shows are held at the sports centre in Bracknell.
Also the Crufts of the cat world is held at the NEC sometime in November.

Hi,We show cats across the country..You Can get a list of shows from the GCCF and i think it costs around £2.50...or you can get Our Cats published by the same people as our dogs..There is also a site listing shows but there is quite alot missing from that..What breed do you have??if you need to know anything else please email me..(P.s.Hope you know what you are letting yourself in for,cat shows are only on a Saturday and you have to be booked in for around 8.30 am and you are not allowed to leave until 5.00 pm) a very long day!!!

Blimey and dog show people think they are hard done by :D

I always wanted a Mane Coon or a Norwegian Forest Cat, but I'll
have to wait as I've got two semi-long moggies and the 2 Boxers I
think 'im indoors would have a fit if I upped my feline population
especially as I want another Boxer next year....:D

One day I will go to the Cat Ch show at the NEC.......

Marky,

Out of interest, how much is it to enter a cat show (Champ) these days?? Back in the 80's when I was showing it was £22.00 and of course there was the cost of travelling and feeding my hubby!!! And OH BOY it was a long day

Governing Council of the Cat Fancy
- By Marky [gb] Date 31.10.03 21:17 UTC
Hi Dill,It costs around £25.00 for an open and 3 side classes for each cat and then it is £5.00 for the Show book(which you will need if you are showing)admision fee if you are with more than one other person no matter how many cats you are showing.Sometimes parking fees and then there is your petrol food etc on top of that.We usualy if showing one cat spend around £100.00 per show but we used to show every two weeks with 3-4 cats.
Your cat needs to be vaccinated and if it does not pass vetting in your entire cats are not allowed to be shown or kittens go to new homes until you get a clearence certificate from a vet.We have not shown a lot this year because of spiralling costs associated with showing and registering kittens etc.The GCCF have also come up with some silly rules in the constitution such as if a complaint is made against you and it is found unfounded, you still have to pay the costs of the hearing..There are lots of old established breeders that have given up in the past 12 months because of spiralling problems within the cat fancy and the Cat Association has just gone into liquadation...All in all i think the cat fancy is on a slippery slope to nowhere....

I only ever showed one of my cats - she hated it - and to me, so many of them did - hiding under their litter trays, that I personally did not feel it was for me/my cats.

And when the persians' noses started to be level with the eyes..... that was enough for me. I preferred to breed old fashioned perisans with noses, that could breathe properly rather than those that looked as if they had run into a bus!

Hadn't realised that the CA had gone into liquidation - at least with them the exhibitors could stay during judging - with GCCF only the judges & stewards attended the judging (rather like judging the cakes & marrows at the village fete).

Thanks for that Marky, looks like dog showing is marginally cheaper and a lot less hassle. (I know I'll probably eat my words LOL )

We didn't show very often but our girl loved it (complete floozy), and was always well placed (1st or 2nd!!) and out of 5 all breed champ shows was placed 1st in all, cc's in three and best of breed in three. She was absolutley typical of her breed, but in the second year of showing we began to hear comments from the judges such as " she's very typical of the breed but she doesn't look like a £$%%^& cat" (prefix) to which my reply was "thats because she's a (breed) and the £$^%%^&* is a prefix" in other words a particular breeder and judge was having such an influence on the breed that it was changing completely (very deep nose break and cherry eyes etc.) I wouldn't play along with this and decided along with a good number of show people to carry on without showing and to refuse to breed to the new type. Recently I saw the breed winner at the Supreme in a cat magazine and was thrilled that they are now looking as they should again. The judge/breeder has now turned attention to a different (newer) breed.

I totally agree about the persians too, I know someone breeding persians but they tend to proper noses and so he hasn't done well in shows in recent years, not that he cares as health is more important.

Hi Margot,The Persians with the flat faces do not seem to have the breathing problems that say Bulldogs have...The only problem they can have is mostly with watery eyes but as usual some lines are more prone to this than others no matter how flat the face..I have yet to come across one with natural breathing problems yet, people automatically assume there is problems with the breahting but this is not the case. The ones that snort you will usually find have suffered with Clymidia in there past...
Regarding the showing i think it is quite a good idea with closed judging as you will find it is the animal being judged and not the owner which i have often heard of dog showing..There is cheating going on at the shows believe me but it does stop quite alot..The main problem with the GCCF is that it is behind the times and not prepared to change,it is fast becoming a kitten register organisation where there only interest lies in how much they can rake in out of kitten registrations etc..There are far more kitten farmers now than ever before and there are alot more dog breeders moving into breeding cats because there are basically no restictions on breeding etc..I think it should be stopped now before we get into the situation we have with all the puppy farmers etc...

Yes - I can believe that - apart from the statutory health checks when one takes one's cats into a show, there are very few restrictions - apart from the one (which I find amusing) is that you have to have the "certificate of entirety" for the stud cat :D :D :D As you say, when it is only the cat that is judged, at least "faces" aren't judged!

Think I'll stay with the dogs - "faces" & all - it works out a bit cheaper!!

Our "kitten" days are coming to the end, with Buster's last litter due in a couple of weeks :( :(

But then again....maybe in two/three years............ (provided the rest of the family don't log on to Champ Dogs :D :D)

Whilst talking of cats can someone in the know let me know please......
I had the cats boosters done on Thursday.
Surprise Surprise (not) I mentioned the tartar on the older cat's teeth
(she's only 4) he plugged HSD.....YAWN we all know why! But he tried to say
it's the best thing since sliced bread for controlling tartar.
Does anyone know if there's an alternative?
I currently feed a dried cat food and half a pouch of whiskas or kitkat.
I have tried giving up the 'wet' stuff but the older cat just won't have it
and 'screams' for it so I give in.....anything for a peaceful life :D
Both cats are semi-longhaired, neutered and I have a 1yr old and a 4yr old.

Interestingly I found that changing my dogs food (dry complete) made a huge difference to his teeth. All the popular brands left his teeth covered in brown tartar that wouldn't budge even when brushed every day :( Then I changed to a working dog brand and the tartar disappeared in about two weeks!!! My 16 year old cat has pretty good teeth and never eats Whiskers now as it was making her puke - ALL OVER THE HOUSE!! yuk. Now she gets Cat Bikkies and pouches from ALDIs (The 'Advance' type biccies) and her tummy is better and so are her teeth. So it may just mean that you need to try different brands of food until one seems to improve things, but it doesn't necessarily have to be HSD ;)

Good luck

Hi Terri

There is a show at Bracknell next weekend, not sure which day. It is the first purely Tonkinese Championship show (so is somewhat of a historic event)

Hi Terri

I have asked the lady concerned and she tells me:

show is on Saturday 8th at the Bracknell Sports & Leisure Centre. We are
in the 3M hall, not the main hall. The doors are open to the public from
12.30pm.
