Could anyone give me some info on KC's new certificate of merit and Junior Warrant. eg
The difference between the two
How many points you get for what
and any more info.
Or is there some where I could get all the info I need.
Thanks
Michelle.

ok difference
JW-winning a number of first prizes with a dog under 18mths from open and champ shows (not sure on the exact point) more then 3 dogs must be present in each class to gain the points.
ShCM - only at open shows for dogs of all ages, i think its about 28 points but im not sure (someone help!) and 5 must come from group placings
group 1=4 2=3 3=2 4=1
BOB=1
i dunno what BIS etc are
both titles go at the end of a dogs name
the main different is one is for junior dogs winning loads of classes with more then 3 dogs present and ShCM is for dogs of all ages who can prove that they can be placed in a group at least twice!

Hi Ice Queen,
When you say you get 2 points for coming 3rd in group, does that also mean 3rd Puppy in group, or doesn't it include puppy classes.
And with the JW do you have to win the whole show to gain points
Michelle.

no puppy groups dont count (no puppy wins are counted unfortantly for me!)
And in the JW it is winning the breed classes at open and champ shows and i have a feeling tho not 100% sure that AVNSCs do not count.
groups etc do not count to JW points. nor does BPIB
BUT if there are only say 2 dogs in your junior class and then 2 in open and you junior wins BOB he can gain one point from that.
hope that helps

Not sure for JW, Dont have them in our breed at the mo, but ShCM, here goes
You must gain 25 points, In General and group Open shows, a minimum of 5 points must be won in group competition. the scale is as follows,
1 Five points for Best in show
2 Four points for Single group Best in Show
3 Group placings will obtain the following points:
1st-four points, 2nd- three points, 3rd two points & 4th -one point
4 One point for BEST AVNSC. (AVNSC Hound,Gundog, etc Winner of Overall BEST AVNSC.
5 One point for Best of breed
6 The Title "ShCM" may be used after the name of the dog on show entries & Catalogues
7 Only points won on or after 1st January 2003 may be counted towards this award.
Jane :)

To illustrate I will show how our Import gained his Show Certifivcate of Merit recently.
He won BOB 8 times = 8 Points, Best Not Seperately Classified once = 1 Point, Twice he was third in the Hound Group = 4 Points, Once he gained Group Second = 3 Points, then he won a Group = 4 Points, and a Best In show gained him another 5 Points, Total 25 Points.
the title should be ShCM, with no full stops, so it should not be confused and misread as Sh. Ch. That is also why it is after the name, as you could imagine down the years mistakes being made mistyping or writing the title on pedigrees.

My puppy went to an open show, and was entered in the open class.
There was 8 in the class and he came 1st
So he got 1st in breed (so am I right in saying thats 1 point)
And automatically best puppy in breed
Then got 2nd in group (3 points, I think)
1st puppy in group
Then 2nd best puppy in show.
So he got 4 ShCH points, (don't the puppy result achieve points)
Would any of those results get him any JW points.
At another show he went in the open class,
He came 3rd, But as he was the only pup he had to compete against the pup winner of the other class,
And he won, so he got best puppy in breed.
Then got 3rd puppy in group.
So that means no ShCH points.
Would any of those results got him any JW points.
Surely the JW points must be awarded to some puppy wins, as they can only be obtained up to 18 months
Michelle.

Junior warrants are for dogs aged 6 to 18 months, and points are earned in BREED classes only at Open and Championship shows, and there must be 3 dogs in the class to qualify for 1 point at Open shows, and 3 points at Championship shows. the youngster can win ANY BREED class to get points (not just puppy or Junior). the only time a BOB makes a difference is if the puppy gets BOB and there were less than 3 dogs in the class it won, but were more than 3 breed entries as a whole, then the young dog gets the point.
ShCM (note M not H) is won with BOB or equivalent (AVNSC classes count), or adult group places, and Best in show at General and Group OPEN shows only. So puppy group places, best puppy wins count for nothing for this award, but may earn the exhibit JW points if there are enough dogs entered, and the wins are in breed classes.

Brainless i must say that is VERY well explain!
i couldn't of explaind it that clearly. Also i just remember each JW points you gain and a show each show must be more then 3 days apart from each other.
can anyone tell me how many points you need from an open show and a champ show because it is doing my head in!!!????
Ah thats another point, your champshow points can only be claimed when your bredd has CCs on offer. other champ shows where you dont have CCs on offer the points are counted as open show points.

thank you for that jay, i wasnt sure on the points.
right now to canculate perrys points.... erm i think thats about 6! 1 point from a group! and two BOBs, i'll check 2moz with his owners, im only handler!

Is there anywhere I can read up on the general points systems for showing dogs - I'm completley new to this and want to do a bit of research.

Hi Wishfairy and anyone else whose interested, if you go onto the KC website www.the-kennel-club.org.uk Then if you look down the green menu on the left you can choose KC forms, click that and a list of forms appears. Find claim for Junior Warrant, and claim for Show Cert of Merit. By clicking on them you can bring them up to print off. All the rules that apply to the awards are there on the form.
