I have a 18 week old Cocker who still wees and poos in the house. I know (now) I have done this all wrong as I have used paper. He is very good and will go on the paper (He is left in alone in the mornings - max 4 hours - and he doesnt mess at all in this time so he can hold his wee) but ....I take him out regularly and he does his business but I can literally take him out for a walk, come back home and he will (within 10 minutes) have wee'd on the paper again....I know I have done this all wrong but can someone put me back on the right track...Thanks in advance.

My first suggestion would be to take up the paper. If he has learned that it is okay to use that he will continue. If it isn't there he may not wee indoors at all. Of course, you will still have to watch him all the time for those little signs that he needs to go, and take him outside straight away.

He is still young though to expect NO mistakes at all
We used towels with Gus instead of paper but I think its confusing for pup when you praise him for going on paper/towel and then you expect him to go outside .
As Jeangenie says praise lots and start to take up the paper or at least move it nearer to the door and keep an eye on him so you know when he wants to go out

again i would say remove the paper,if it had been nice weather you could of put some paper outside the back door ,but i dont think that will work at the moment,i would go back to the beginning,as soon as you get up/and just beforeyou go to bed . then during the day when he wake's put him outside ,and after meal time's and when he does his buisness give him lot's of praise.hopefully he should get the hang off soon!:)

I have recently moved and i have a 4year old rhodesian ridgeback cross and a 2 year old staffy. My problem is this, they are house trained until i go to bed, then they my staff is doing her business when i'm in bed, even if they are only left about 4hours. My older dog has also started pee'ing and devouring the contents of my bin while i'm out! I am at my whits end with both of them and my boyf says i have to get rid of them. But if i can find a solution he'll be ok with me having them. He wont make me get rid of them its just a threat. But i want this problem to stop as much as him. Please can anyone help?

Doogs, you'll probably better of posting your own thread on your problem to get maximum feedback from the guys......:)

Doogs this sounds more like a seperation anxiety problem rather than a housetraining issue - does the damage start within half an hour of you being gone?
