hi, i was wondering is the vizsla makes a good gaurd dog because we need this in a dog.
thank you
jj
Have you done any research into the breed, and are you fully aware of all the health tests that should be done??
If not I could possibly suggest some good breed specific books for you to read, before trying to buy a puppy :)

No. If you want a guard dog buy a guarding breed ;-)

A Hungarian Vizsla is a gundog from the HPR group. It is NOT a guard dog of any description. The term "guard dog" can be interpreted to mean several things; first of all you have to define exactly what you want a dog for eg to bark a warning or to detain/deter trespassers. Either way you need to be looking at working/pastoral breeds, not gundogs!
If you want a guard dog you dont want a vizsla they are one of the most loving dogs around they thrive on human company and attention and are not the easiest of breeds to live with due to there need for attention and stimulation, to keep a vizsla soley as a guard dog would be highly unapropiate and cruel as others have already said they are a HPR not a guarding breed ,you need to lots more research on the breed.
they will bark at strangers but that is there guarding limitations.
