Can a puppy be made agressive by rough play? I have a 5yr old lab bitch and a 12 week old westie dog who have always got on well, their play times have got increasingly more boisterous and noisy especially the westie. They are wonderful together and a joy to watch.
We do separate them at times mainly to give the lab some peace but I am worried this rough play will make the westie aggressive. The lab does put him in his place when it gets too much but I fully expect this very confident westie to become the dominant dog. My vet says just leave them to sort it out which we have done so far. There has never been any hint of nastiness in their play, over toys or food. Am I just worrying about nothing?

Westies do sound as though they are being aggressive when playing. My mothers wee man has a Manchester terrier to keep him company and the racket through growling and carrying on in their play can be quite worrying! Their size seems to be against them so they appear to make up for it vocally! I wouldn't worry, its just westie communication! Let the two decide between themselves who is most dominant, i'm sure they'll be okay.
There should be someone with more wesite experience should be along later!
Take care

I'd let them get on with it! As long as they are making a noise, you don't need to worry! Silent but deadly is when you start worrying.

No, leave them to it, play is good if noisy, you will soon get to know when things are getting out of had and then you can yell ENOUGH or whatever from the kitchen.
