Unfortunately my beautiful Border Terrier Herbie has still not be found and I found this poem, that describes all my wonderful memories of him. We are still praying that a miracle happens and he is found but although this made me cry It says everything I feel!!!
We have a secret you and I
that no-one else shall know
for who but I can see you lie
each night in the fireglow?
And who but I can reach out my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I can walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me
your small form racing with the wind
so young and free again.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no-one but I
can see the bending grass.

So sorry for you you must be so sad I hope that you get him back Im sure you will
Don't give up - keep ringing the police and dog wardens in your own and surrounding areas. Put up lots of posters all over the place (garages, newsagents, dog food shops, supermarkets, dog walking areas, vets etc etc) with his photo in bags to keep them dry. Put lost notices in local papers and contact vets.
Good luck

hi pip, so sorry you still have no news, Ive been thinking of you and herbie a lot today. I have asked the pet shops around here to keep their eyes open for a "new" B/t
I know we are a long way from you, but you never know!!
bye for now ..phil xxxx
Little glimmer of hope today, we had a phone call this morning, in response to advert in local paper. Apparently he fits the description of a dog that this man saw in a field 6 miles from where we lost him. He saw the dog on Friday morning the day after he went missing. He said that the dog appeared exhausted and when he saw the advert it jogged his memory.
We have searched that area but no sign, but maybe my boy is trying to make his way home, so we have targetted all areas with posters from there to home.
Thank you for all your kind thoughts, it really helps me, just to know that you are all thinking and praying for his safe return.

Hi Pip,
I've got my fingers crossed that he is nearly home with the story of his own "incredible journey" to tell.

Daz, any news ? Leigh
We had a phone call last night from a man who was aboslutely sure he saw him in a field about 5 miles from where he went missing, on Wednesday afternoon, this almost a direct line heading home, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that that is what he is trying to do.
We have since targetted that area with posters and knocking on doors.
Where he was seen is adjacent to a rubbish tip, so he may be recharging batteries by scavenging food from there before resuming his long trek home.
I am convinced that as long as he stays healthy he will either make it home or someone will pick him up and bring him to us.
Thanks for all your kind comments everyone and I will kepp you up to date of progress!!!!

hi
i'm really sorry about Herbie but is you havn't already found him you could re-do your posters and add that he isn't vicious and if anyone sees him maybe they would consider trying to catch him, and then contact you, just an idea

Hi what a beautiful poem. Sorry to hear about your dog, please don't give up searching, My westie Alfie went missing in feb this year and I set up a campaign to get him back as I knew he'd been stolen as the police were not interested in dogs. A week later I set out in search and within five minutes of entering my l;ocal bootfair I spotted Alfie tied up in the back of a lorry owned by travellers. Alfie still had his old collar and I had the matching lead in my bag. Even though the travellers insisted they had Alfie for years, I knew he was only 16 months old and microchipped. So mirricles do happen so don't give up hope. Sadly my joy was short lived as two weeks later Alfie was killled in an RTA. I too get comfort out of a verse called RAINBOW BRIDGE.
There is a bridge connnecting heaven and earth, it is called the rainbow bridgebecause of its many colours.
just this side of the rainbow bridge is a land of meadows, hill and valleys all of it covered in lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this lovely land. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. Those maimed are made whole once more. They play all day with each other, content and comfortable
There is only one thing missing. They are not with the special person who loved them on earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! then, the nose twitches! the ears are up! the eyes staring! you have been seen, and that one suddenly runs from the group.
You take them in your arms and embace, your face is kissed again and again and you look once again into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then, together you cross the Rainbow Bridge, never again to be seperated.

okay, I'm crying now, my nose is doing that twitching thing when you don't want the tears welling up in your eyes to spill. What a lovely picture that rainbow bridge paints. When it's my time, I suppose a whole herd of animals will come stampeding towards me. What a happy thought to see all those that were lost again! I can barely see the keyboard. I'm such a mush.
I'll be praying your dog is safe and you'll find him soon.
