Hi there, my dog is a 15 year old toy pomeranian. We brought her to the vet recently because she had sudden hair loss, she wasn't eating too much (some weight loss), and her demeanor changed. She also has severe arthritis which she takes Metacam to relieve the pain. She had blood work done, and the vet suspects that it may be Cushing's Disease. I have read up on some of the websites posted here on Cushing's, and I feel terrible that I did notice the signs sooner. I just thought that the lethargy and low tolearnce for exercise was part of the natural process of aging. Is there anyone who has gone through this before? I'd like to know what to expect from the process and what I can do for my dog to make her as comfortable as possible.

Our girl we lost in April had Cushings - but she wasn't diagnosed for it until Sept of last year (back and forwards to the vets until a new young Austrailian vet picked up on it). Hair loss and allways really thirsty were the main signs of cushings. The vet said there were some tablets to try (£120 per month) so we tried them for 3 months but the vet agreed that they were'nt doing anything for her. The only other medication was some kind of "human" tablets - but it was in short supply for human use and there would be no way we would be able to get it - our vet tried for us but sadly couldn't get it. Sorry I can't offer any advice - our old girl didn't really suffer too much from it except she couldn't fight off infections. In the end her legs failed her, which was the final decision for us, but she'd had a good "innings" for a Boxer - or so we're told.

My little maltese bobby has cushings he is on vetoryl he is doing ok on this though he is a bit quiet when he has his pills so i give him his choccy buttons and he is ok so im sure your dog will be ok other than that i dont know much more about it
