Can anybody offer me any advice, I have a Japanese Akita who is 5 years old. Today he was laying in his bed when he started to panic about something. His eyes were staring and he was trying to get up but couldn't. He fell out of his bed and began trying to walk around the room but his legs were going everywhere and he was shaking and stiff. After about a minute he collapsed on the floor and then after five minutes he was fine. We have got him in at the vets this afternoon but I am very worried.

Sounds as if he may have had some sort of fit, (?) taking him to the vet was the best thing you could have done, hopefully there some tests will shed some light on the matter.

It's worrying isn't it.

Could be lots of things so there's no point scaring yourself even more by speculating. It's so worrying, just waiting to see what the vet says. Akitas are such big brave dogs, it's awful when they are not well. it does sound like a fit, but lots of things can be the cause of that.
Hope it's good news.

sounds like a fit to me. just leave him in a quite place he can rest
and if he has another one make sure theres nothing in his way to injur himself and leave him too it. dont stroke him often dogs who have fits have no idea whats about them and panic. so he may bite. just be careful and take him to the vet as soon as poss:) hope he gets better soon

Also draw the curtainis whilst he is having a fit. Bright light can trigger another fit as they become hyper sensitive. I was also told that if a dog has a fit say in the morning and recovers like you said it is best to leave the vets until the afternoon as moving him could trigger another fit. I think it would definately be a good idea to consult a vet.
Opps just read the post again, you already have consulted a vet - sorry, you're doing the right thing!
