My girlfriend and I just got a black labrador, she is 1-2 years old and we collected her from a farm/rescue where there were several other labradors. Since we have got her home she has seemed very scared, unwilling to go for walks, tail between her legs etc. She originally came from a house where she was the only dog but was given to this farm when the womans husband became Ill and she couldn't look after them both. She had only been at the farm for a month so do you think she will grow more confident over time or do you think it is unsuitable for her to live with us as an only dog?
I would say all she needs is lots of love and care, she has been taken from her home, then to a rescue farm, and then moved yet again, she is proberly feeling very unwanted, poor darling,

I would agree with Heidleberg. The thing is, however much the rescue told you about her you will never really know exactly what went on before you got her.
Good strong leadership, and by that I dont mean hard, will help her by showing her exactly what is expected of her. Lots of love and leadership will soon bring her around. She will learn what is expected and also what is NOT wanted.

Ditto with John and Heidleberg.
She is feeling very unsettled as was taken away from her home to live in at the farm which I presume was kennels and not a home sort of enviroment which she has been used to.
You need to give her time and lots of love and encoragement, play games, make life fun for her and she will soon come to trust you and be able be a happier more confident girl !

I have black lab myself, they are very affectionate dogs and need to know they are loved, if im not taking any notice of Toby he will soon let me know by nudging me or looking at me with sad eyes, so its no wonder she is feeling sad at moment, but im sure she will come round with lots of care, i really feel for her, please give her a big hug and kiss from me.
