Minstrel is off the lead every walk, when we are away from the roads she is off the lead, she will always walk behind me and when she gets a bit behind and either is called or notices I am up ahead she will bound towards me...

If she sees something or hears something she is by my side sitting down, for protection...

I agree with brainless that the sooner you allow them freedom and they get used to it, then it is easier that they will stay, when we get near to a road again I call her and she sits whilst I put on her lead...
