Hi,
Please can anyone give me any advice.
We have a Female Border Collie and she is 10 months old.
Last night we noticed she had started bleeding, how long does this go on for and would she feel any discomfort???
How many times in a year will this happen.
Many Thanks

Hi there,It can go on for 3 or 4 weeks although mine only ever last 3 weeks or there abouts. but the time she can get pregnant varies so personally i would keep her away from all other male dogs all the way through..Dont take her for a walk and keep a close eye on her cause when she is ready to be mated, trust me she will want to get out there and do the business. As for times in a year ,it varies some bitches come in every 6 monthe literally to the day others longer or shorter.Mine come in season between 6 and 10 months. But you really need to keep an eye on her.

Hi
your bitch is fertile AFTER the bleeding stops so I wouldn't let her near a male for 4 weeks from onset just to be sure.Be aware that if your bitch is in the garden she may well become an escapologist to get out and find herself a mate and males may also come from far and wide to 'attend' to your girl.It is just a case of being very careful -you don't want your pup having pups after all...better safe than sorry!!
