Any suggestions on how I can calm my 18mth springer, in the house he is as docile and timid as they come but put a lead on him and he goes hyper, squeeling and screeching with what one can only describe as delight because he is going out. We have tried taking him back but it starts all over again when we try to go again. He is excellent at everything else, his recall is superb its just the noises he makes that are getting to us. He also does this when he sees another dog he gets so excited and starts the screeching.
Anyone know how to stop this. Its getting to a stage where I dread going out with him.

Does he go mental when he sees the lead? If so, simply hang the lead back on it's hook (or where ever it's kept)........ then when he is quiet praise and reward him with a walk - he'll soon learn that it's quiet behaviour that gets the reward...... And boy can't those Springers squeal when they like <G>
