...what is the difference between the supermarket variety of Frontline and the one the vets prescribe? Our vet tutted and shook his head at me when I said I had just put the supermarket one on Sparky! Is it really a waste of time?

Frontline isn't available in Supermarkets ..I wish it was , it may be a bit cheaper ;) Are you talking about maybe Hertz or something like that?

The only place I know you can get frontline without a prescription is on American ebay. It is not available otherwise in this country

I had a big lecture from my vet about buying worming and fleaing treatments from the supermarket, apparently they are not allowed to sell either the same strengths and/or the same ingredients as a vet is allowed to prescribe, and therefore are much weaker. The supermarket preparations try to make themselves look and sound like what is available from the vet's, so that we'll be fooled into buying them. I thought I was worming Buster perfectly adequately and regularly with treatments I'd bought from the supermarket, last month he started showing symptons of what I thought was blocked anal glands, when I took him along the vet said he had worms ... and what I'd been buying wasn't worth the paper it was written on. She particularly singled out Bob Martin's and a flea one which I can't remember, but she'd looked on the ingredients and it was merely repellent and wasn't preventing anything, so from now on I'll be getting mine from the vet's!! I am not a vet but please don't anyone waste their money buying vet products from the supermarket. I know that the vets products cost a lot more but that's because they work! I had a huge flea problem in my house and on my cat and the only way I eradicated it was to get the spot on treatment from the vet and their household spray. No spray in the supermarket will work and believe me - I spent and wasted enough money trying. I've had enough people telling me that vets tell you only their products work but in my experience they do. After all, you most likely wouldn't pick up a prescription for yourself from supermarket shelves.

Thanks everyone - you're right - it was spot on I was thinking of, not Frontline. Sparky has had to have his glands cleared twice so far (he's only 5 months), so hopefully the Frontline will help. I'd only used spot on before as this is what the breeder had suggested.
Thanks
