I had to tell somebody who will understand!
Yesterday morning got up and Molly couldn't walk on her left hind leg. Fine when we went to bed but got up and couldn't walk. Just kept stopping and licking it. All sorts of panic going through my head as I'm ringing the vets to get an emergency appt. Got her booked in and phoned worked to say would be late.
Sat at Vets and finally got seen - turns out she's twisted the ligaments in her hock joint?? (vet thinks prob jumped awkwardly??) Had to have lots of pulling at her legs and an anti-inflammatory jab with follow up of tabs. Now would anyone expect me to go to work after this? My poor baby was sat on my lap, not moving feeling very sorry for herself and I was expected to leave her? I think not.
Phoned work and asked if I could take the day as un-paid leave and boss was totally off with me - really ar**y and horrible. It's not like I was asking him to pay me! After all I could have thrown a sicky and he would be none the wiser.
The other thing is, our cat had a really bad reaction to his last job and couldn't walk or breath properly so I'm always really dubious about jabs now. we stayed at home and had lots of cuddles and kisses all day and I b***y wish I was there now! (Hubby sated home today)
Sorry to moan on, but some people just don't seem to understand how important a pet can be. I don't have any kids and Molly is my baby.

I completely understand ! I even walked out on a job due to the fact that my boss was real B*****d when he wouldn't let me have time off to stay with my - then susupected dying retreiver !! (anyway the retreiver carried on for another 5 years and I got a better job the next day!!!)
If you do go out to work , if she has twisted her leg then the best thing I would imagine is bed rest for her , if you have a crate it may be worth thinking about putting her in that for a couple of hours or for 1/2 a day if your boss will let you !!at most .
Good luck

Have already thought about the job issue, believe me! Was in tears about it yesterday. Would rather not have to work at all but still need to live. Need a job where I can take her with me!

Thought i'd reply to this cause i feel so strongly about it. I also work and have thought about what i would do if Buddy was ill and could'nt leave him. There's only me and him. I've told them many times at work that if anything happened to him or i was to worried to leave him alone then they either except that i would need time off paid or unpaid or i bring him in to work with me. I'm sure they don't think i'm serious but i am. My Buddy is as precious to me as some of my colleagues children are to them. If they had not allowed me to have Bonfire night off and i could'nt find someone to have Buddy overnight then he would have been at work with me. Worrying about them means you could'nt concentrate anyway, surely management can see that.
Glad to get that off my chest.
Hope all goes well with you and Molly.

Thanks everyone and you're totally right, pets mean more to some people than others realise. People don't seem to understand unless they have a pet of their own.
As I said yesterday, I don't have any kids but Molly is my baby and if it happened again tomorrow I still wouldn't go to work. Work is an unfortunate thing which I have to bear, but Molly is a bundle of joy that makes everything worth while.
She seems better now and it is a nightmare to stop her running after the cat and I think she's really missing her walks. The tablets finished this morning so I'm a bit concerned that when the effects of those wear off she might be bad again, so I'm keeping an eye on it and will go back to the vets tonight if necessary.
