I wonder if anyone has any ideas?
My ten week old pointer knows that he has to do his business outside but we are still having a few accidents indoors.
Is there a way to teach him to 'ask' to be let outside.
Sometimes I think he's doing this by sitting by the door and looking at me, but then when I let him out nothing happens. Thanks.

The trick is to take himoutside, wait for a performance and praise lavishly. It will be znother few months before he actually learns to ask to go out. some dogs never so they just ghet more control, and wait for the opportunity to go outsdie, and hang on in between times.

Hi,
I trained mine by praising her and saying "do a wee" a few times every time she went outside, so she associates the words with the act. Now if I say "do you want to do a wee" she goes to the door. Obviously she doesn't want every time but if I keep telling her to do one she'll either do a wee or poo, or else lie down or bark at me if she doesn't want.

As brainless says some dogs don't ask (Bess never does) but if you can keep one step ahead and an eye on the clock, you can anticipate when he needs to go (it will get longer in between as he grows). Whatever you do though, don't punish the indoor accidents, just ignore them and praise the outside deeds.

Good luck.
Kath.
