Hi,
I'm curious about showing. Kass is the first dog i've had (as an adult!!! of my own!) and i was wondering whether it was worth giving showing a try.
What do I need to consider before/if I begin, or can anybody suggest an alternative sport for us to take part in?
Kass is a five an a half month old german shepherd
thanks,
love Kayley

You'd need to find a local ringcraft class to learn how to show your dog.
It would be helpful if you could have your dog assesed by a breed specialist to
see if they feel he's good enough to show. Does he fit the breed standard etc.
The place which is a fun environment to start showing is the companion dog shows that
were called exemption shows. Although these are more plentiful in the summer months
and you can enter on the day. Than open shows and then the top tier is Championship shows,
obviously the higher up the tier the more expensive it becomes.
Other 'sports' you could turn your hand to could be obedience, there's also the KCGC (Kennel Club Good Citizen's)
awards bronze thru to Gold awards to work towards.
When your dog is old enough there is also agility which can be fun. I think dogs have to be 18 months old
before they can compete and sometimes train. As the dogs bones and joints aren't developed enough.
