We have a one year old JRT who has just moved in with us, and he constantly howls and wimpers for attention during the night outside of our bedroom door. We sucumbed to his requests eventually as we felt he needed time to settle in anyway. And he just curled up on the floor beside our bed, but now we don't particularly want to let him in with us every night, can anyone suggest anything to help us out? Or is it just a case of shutting the door and grinning and bearing it until he learns to be alone? I believe previously he used to sleep in with his owners which could make it even more difficult.
Thanks!!

The first time you let him in your room you made the situation worse. That was the time when you should have ignored his behaviour. He will now expect to sleep in with you and if you try and stop him he will probably get worse.
Do you have a crate for him?Crate training him into his own little space could solve your problem. If he will sleep in a cage then you may be able to train him to sleep in there, but still in your room, and gradually move it out into the hallway. That way he will feel secure in 'his room' while you remove him from yours. It will probably take quite a while, even longer if you have to crate train him first, but it may just solve your problem.
