Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Co-ownership and registration

Am not sure which board this really fits under but since it is a KC question I am putting it here!
I wonder if someone can clarify the position where a bitch is co-owned by two breeders, each with their own affix, and is bred from in that ownership. Can the resulting litter be registered under either - or neither - affix? I know that people often officially "loan" the bitch but what if both people want to be named as breeders on the litter registration? I think there is a rule about not being able to add an affix to a dog who is not in exactly the same ownership as the affix (my partner and I had to take out a separate interest in my affix to add it to our jointly owned dog). Does this apply to litter registrations also? Would be really interested to hear what those of you who do co-own bitches do about this.

Thanks
Janet

Usually the puppies would be registered with NO affix then the co owners add their affix to the puppies that are theirs Well at least that what happened to everyone who has a similarly bred litter that I know

Edited to Add the Affix is added at the end of the dogs name

eg Black Pepper from Karnak-Chris Amoo's & the Thornton's young dog bred by the Thorntons & Peter & Jean Wright

I have a bitch in partnership with her breeder. In order to register her pups with me as the breeder only we had to complete a loan of bitch agreement. If we hadnt done that then neither of us could have used our affixes to register the pups. I have sold a pup in partnership to someone and they will not be able to add their affix because of our joint names, Jan

I own a bitch in a three way partnership with her breeders. It was agreed at the outset of the partnership, what the breeding terms were. In my case, the bitch will have her KC registration transferred back to the names of her breeders so that their affix will be used and they will be the registered breeders of the litter. They will choose the stud dog and I will be offered a puppy of the breeders choice from the litter, incidentally, no money changed hands when I got this bitch. There needs to be something in it for everyone.

As I said, all this was pre agreed, and I really think it's important for everyone involved to know where they stand from the beginning, so that there can be no argument or discussion.

I think one of you would have to take out a joint interest in the others affix, and then add the second affix on as a suffix. That way you get joint breeders and both affixes. I have a pup with two affixes in front of the name, but that is becasue we co-bred both parents, so can use our joint affix and then my affix (as breeder of the litter)

She will be joint owned but not bred by either party. So it looks like no affix or taking out an interest are the only ways. Thanks for the advice.

In my breed (Golden Retrievers), it is common for the two breeders, each with their own affix, to take out a third affix which is registered in their joint names.
This way it is obvious whether it is a dog bred in partnership or with their own individual affix.

To add to the confusion, I know of a couple in partnership where the dog puppies are registered with one affix and the bitches with the other....
