Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Jumping at door

As some of you may know my dog Benjy recently badly dislocated his leg when he fell after jumping at the door to get out.
He gets SO excited about going out that he runs for the door barking and then jumps up and down until he gets out.
I have tried ever since he was a puppy to stop this behaviour.
I do command him to sit but his bum 'hover's over the ground and as soon as the door opens he 'springs' up and dives out of the door barking.
He is even trying to do this whilst he is wearing his fixator.
At the moment I have to take him to the door on a lead so I put on him on a very short lead and command him to sit and wait but he still jumps up when I go to open the door.
I am absolutely terrified of him hurting himself again so would appreciate any advice on how to stop this behaviour.

I followed Benjys story and am so pleased hes well and back with you. :) This might help: Benjy on lead, go to door, get him to sit and open it a crack. If he jumps up, shut the door. When he sits open it a bit, if he jumps shut it. The dog should learn that when he waits nicely he gets out, but it could take a while since its a deeply ingrained habit.
