Topic Dog Boards / General / What breed is used in hound trailing

I am going to the 'Wasdale Show' this weekend which is a country-style sporting event including terrier racing, fell racing and hound trailing etc.

I am interested in which breed is actually used in this trailing? Can anybody help me?

Just in case you are reading this and do not know what hound trailing is....it is where a guy trails a bag of aniseed from the back of his quad and a few hours later..hounds follow that same trail and the first dog back is the winner.

I believe there is a specific breed, similar to foxhounds - http://www.houndtrailing.org.uk/

Would have thought it would be open to any scent hound as coursing is open to any hound who will follow by sight. But although I'm a hound owner I don't get involved at the working end so I may well be wrong. So whats new ;)

graham/Jackie, they tend to be fell hounds (a type of of fox hound) although I also know folk who use harrier x fox hounds as well.
