I have a pure bread female boxer pup (5 months) named Olive and she is still not grasping the idea that eliminating in the house is not a good thing. She is a smart pup, and its not that she is incapable of learning it, I just don't know what its so difficult, is it me??
Since she was about 2 months old we have cratede her while we are at work or school during the day, but she is still eliminating in her crate. She is not in her crate for more then 5 hours at a time. When i get homw i walk her and praise her like crazy when she does her buisness out side and an hour after she eats i always taker her out, but she still dose not understand.
I read somewhere that dogs what to keep their living space clean, but Olive does not seem to want to do that. Maybe it will come with time, maybe i just have to keep trying, or maybe i am doing something really worng.... I'm not sure how to solve this problem. Any and all advice would be greatly appriciated!
Oh ya, one more question, how/when(hol old) do dogs learn to bark when there is a knock at the door?? Is it something that comes a naturally or need to be taught??
The length of time you leave your puppy may have something to do with her eliminating in her crate, she is still quite long to be left for 5 hours in a crate, it is a long time to expect a puppy to stay in crate and you will probably find that she goes to the tiolet in her crate because she is distressed. If you are going to leave her for such a long time can you not leave her in the kitchen, somewhere for her to play and relax. Or can you get somebody to come and let her out after a few hours which might help.
It is strange that you use the wording "does not understand", the reason she does not understand is because you have not trained her properly, are you using a signal for her to go to the toilet, I use "get busy", you can then train her to understand the reason why she is being put outside is to do a wee etc.
