Sparky has been weeing a lot more than usual over the past day or so. Could this be something to worry about - do dogs get "chills" like we do? Do you think it's worth troubling the vet or will he think I'm a neurotic mother again? He seems perfectly fine otherwise - bouncy and cheerful, eating and drinking, bright-eyed etc.

I would talk to your vet.... has he been straining, going more often but actually weeing for shorter time? Try and keep a plan of whats worrying you and take him to the vet to get it checked out. Having had a dally who suffered with stones I would never not see the vet if i thought my dog had waterworks problems :)

Is she due in season? bitches do wee more when coming in? If not or if she has been spayed, maybe get her checked, she may have a urine infection or the start of cystitis.

Hi TracyL, i would be interested in hearing how you got on as i've noticed Buddy taking longer to pee lately. He seems to be cocking/squatting more and taking longer to do it even when he can't possibly have anything else left in his bladder. Brother's dog (Daisy) was operated on last year for bladder stones. She was weeing constantly and passing blood. I've not seen any blood in Buddy's wee though.

Don't want to alarm anybody, but if you notice your pet drinking or weeing more, waking at night to be taken out when it wasn't an issue, a trip to the vet is important. My 13 month old started doing just this 2 weeks ago, and I've just found out he has diabetes. By no means am I saying it'll be something that serious, but that going to the vet early will either set your mind at rest or help you catch something early.

Sorry for not replying to you all sooner. Sparky was given the all clear at the vets - but he did need his anal glands emptying again. He only had this done about four weeks ago, so we will have to keep an eye on it. The weeing has gone back to normal - the vet thought it was probably because of him swallowing water when he was swimming in the river. Thanks for your concern.
