Our Westie is 20 weeks old but he has the worst appetite. He loves tuna as many other dogs on this forum seem to but that is the only meal that he will finish.
Today he had chicken and liver cesar food and he ate it so quickly that he was sick. He also eats a lot of grass which sometimes makes him sick becasue he cannot digest it in its pure form. Since he was sick today he has been growling and is very bad temered;this isn't like him.
This is our first dog and we love him to bits he's one of the family! Just like any owner we want to do the best possible by him. PLEASE can somebody tell me what food their Westie eats and when, bearing in mind that he is small for his age. How many meals does they have?
Hope you can help!
Westie lover

Hi Rugrott,
Please don't take this the wrong way as it is meant in a decent way, you are best to post peoples e-mails privately unless of course they don't mind.
I know Joan is not a member here.

Laura,
Westies are no different to any other breed, generally ( not all the time) it is caused by the owners changing their foods, they are quite small so they do not need huge amounts of food.
Decide on a food and stick to it for a period or she will dominate the feeding.
They rarely stave to death :-)
Maybe be a bit firmer.

I agree with Pamela.
I have a 20 week old Cairn a country cousin of Westies - up to about 16 weeks fed him 4 times a day, am now at 3 times a day and will change to twice a day soon and stick there if he is ok with it.
He has always had an appetite heh ;) However, I did switch his diet from JWB to Naturediet a few weeks ago, and boy does he love it. I switched partly after reading about it here and then checking out the options - have seen that some people have found success with Naturediet for 'fussy' eaters.

Hi Pam, Have you changed your Login name?
Laura, My Westie is now 20 weeks and also fussy eater (probabky mostly my own doing for spoiling her rotten when we first got her). She goes through phases - some days she will eat the bowl full and other days she turns her nose up. This morning for example she didn't eat anything.
She has two meals a day now as she cut out lunch herself and she has a handful of burns with Naturediet. We tried the whole removing the bowl and not feeding til the next meal, but she seems to eat like a cat - little and often. She will have a nibble on it every now and again but will very rarely eat a whole meal in one sitting.
Last night I gave her the meat and carrots from a shepherds pie I'd made and mixed it with her burns. She completely licked the bowl clean! Fussy madam.

Hi!
My mother owns a westie dog. Now 2, he eats like a bird - always has. He had been kept on Pedigree chum all of his life as that was what his breeder recomended. He soon became underweight although my mother following the feeding instructions on the bag.
I introduced my mother to Vitalin dog food and she ordered a bag of the bitch diet. He loves it and is slowly gaining weight. She feeds him in the morning and evening, measuring according to the feeding guide on the bag. Have a look for it and see what you think, it worked for Whisky.
Hope you can sort him.

My male westie (Buddy) who is 19 mths old now has never been a fussy eater but i did have problems with runny poo for a long time. I changed over to naturediet lite some months ago with great success. He loves it and would eat it by the crate full if i left him to it. I feed him twice a day, 3/4 to one pack a day. Some of the pack goes into his kong as a treat.
Hope you get your little mate sorted out soon.
