Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / is my dog pedigree?? Help!
- By guest [gb] Date 06.10.03 20:24 UTC
We got a labrador at the end of july and got with him what we thought was a pedigree. He is a golden lab and on a recent visit to the vets i was asked was he a cross? I have since researched the situation which i should have done before I got him and am now in doubt as to if he is a pedigree. I wouldnt change him for the world now but feel cheated. Im not sure whether his weight and height are correct for his age, (which is 4 1/2 months) and he has a white triangle shape on his head. The place i got him from offered me money back straight away, which is not what i want. i want to know if he is crossed and what is he crossed with. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell i am an amature dog owner.

When you bought him - were you given a written out pedigree? Were you given Kennel Club registration? If not KC registration, was your pup registered with DLRC? If the latter, then any pedigree form is not worth the paper it was written on!

You say the place you bought him from have offered you your money back, so I would imagine they must have doubts - try and find out from them what could have fathered him (that is, presuming that you saw his mother and that she was a yellow labrador).

Enjoy your pup for what he is - a lovely member of your family - maybe he'll turn into what all our dogs (pedigree otherwise) aspire to - a much-loved Pedigree Tripe Hound!!!

Regards
Margot

Were you planning to breed or show your pup? If not then the papers dont matter much anyway. I understand how you feel as we thought we had an English Pointer, but in fact have a Pointer Plus. He is a loved member of our family as Margot says, a Pedigree Tripe Hound and I wouldnt change a single thing about him. Its feeling a sucker that irritates - my pride in other words, and how important is that, compared to my dogs love and happiness ? Agility, working trials and flyball are open to all kinds of dogs if you want to do something competitive with him.
