Was going to add this onto the 'chicken wings' thread, but my guess is its going to be locked any time soon! I am also worried about the chances of bones splintering, particularly the way Moog just sucks her food in like its going to run off any minute! (Minx, being a delicate litle lady, eats like one, so no probs with her, lol :-) ) So does anyone mince their wings/carcasses? I have been very unsuccesful in finding a decent heavy duty mincer that can take the pace, so that's my question really - does anyone have a good one, and where did you find it?
LOL Jenna,
Know what you mean, I asked a couple of Q's too, but the thread seems to have mutated somewhat!! :D
Hope we get some answers here. ;)
Kath.
Edit. just realised I haven't put what the Q's were so here goes!!...
Where's the best sort of places for buying raw wings, meat etc?
I've sent my intro to Britbarf but not heard anything yet. Anyone know how long it usually takes?

Hi to you both
I have a young Mal boy who I feed on the BARF diet. He has an intolerance to the cooking process of foods so can only be fed a natural diet. Unfortunately due to having a growth removed in his intestines I have to be very careful when feeding him RMB, which is the main source of the BARF diet.
I have invested in a mincer which I purchased from Northern Tool Hire, Tel. no. 0161 3049397, web site www.northertoolhire.co.uk. They have mincers ranging from £60.00 upwards. I picked a middle of the range one which was about £100. This is able to cope with chicken wings and pork ribs. I normally place a large order with my local butcher then have a mincing evening (GGGrrrreeeaaatt!!!) and mince the whole lot together and bag up in freezer bags. I also add sardines or pilchards in with the mince for flavour and also any fresh veg etc I may have in the fridge.
I would highly recommend this method and have had no problems.
Hope that helps, Rachel

Fed up with the chicken wings thread too.:( I wanted to know more about raw feeding.) I don'know what the BARF diet is.(Forgive my ignorance please) Can anyone enlighten me and tell me its merits. I have a 3 year old lab with persistent hot spots and 2 17 week old Bichons.
Thanks
Gill

Hi Gee,
If you do a "search" for BARF you'll find loads of info about it, and I gather there are special BARFers' sites too (Britbarf being one). I'm a "half-and-halfer-BARFer" - my dogs get commercial food in the morning and real meat in the evening. It's noticeable that the evening meal is
much more popular than the morning one! They have bones every so often, and the wing
tips when I cook a chicken, and seem to be thriving.
Hope this helps.
:)
JG,
Am I right in thinking you shouldn't mix commercial and BARF in the same meal. I'm a half/halfer at the mo too. Will probably go further but I don't think I'll stop the commercial altogether for now. I agree, Bess goes mad for the homemade stuff!
Kath.

I really couldn't say, Kath - I haven't looked into it that deeply. I know there are people who believe that even
we shouldn't eat protein and carbohydrate in the same meal, saying that neither gets digested properly, but I couldn't eat my roast dinner without the potatoes as well!
:)
LOL. Me neither, I mean really there's a limit!

Thanks Jeangenie will do the search. Am pretty sure the lab would eat it with gusto from the sound of things. The bichons are a bit sniffy about food but you never know?:)
