I just had to tell everyone i'm getting a Golden Retriever rescue dog on saturday. A lovely bitch. She was found wondering the streets and no one had claimed her for ages, I can't get over that some one could "lose" a lovely dog like this. At least I can offer her a loving home. :-)

i did post earlier that i was looking into an akita, but after much deliberation i realised that it wasnt suitable. After owning labs etc in the past i was sure of their nature.....

Hiya - Goldies are lovely - I have one and he is the sweetest dog ever :)
Well done for taking on a rescue, they definately deserve a second chance, I bet she's gorgeous - What's her name?

Why not an Akita?
I re-homed two, a bitch and a dog. They are fantastic! Granted they take over the sofa and my bed, but they are wonderful family members once you get used to their dry sense of humour.
Its sad how the Akita still carries such a bad stigma, it really upsets me. Bad ownership has led them to be misunderstood and mow they are suffering for it.
Hope you enjoy your GR though, good luck. Re-homes can be tricky.

Excellent, I can imagine your excitement, it never ceases to amaze me how such lovely dogs end up in rescue, I was at battersea yesterday and there were so many stunning dogs there it was unbelieveable !! Im off to Battersea again in a bit with my mum because she has seen a lurcher pup she wants and I think im more excited than her !! Im trying to curb my excitement though because the pup is deaf and therefore they are looking for a very "special" home for her, I really hope mum fills the criteria because im sure they would be great for her.

Best of luck with your new dog :)

I have just taken in Toby a beautiful Golden Retriever ...who was saved by the rescue i foster for from being PTS for being aggressive(and i mean saved he was due to be PTS that night and the rescue had to travel across the country to get him)...well 3 weeks after i first met him and fell in love with him he is finally here...after being thoroughly assessed :)
And not a nasty moment have we had yet...im keeping a close eye after all i have other dogs and children to consider...but absolutely no indication yet.
What i cant get over is why a perfectly healthy 9 month old would be PTS on one persons say so ...and his old owners had only had him 24 hours :(

We did ask about her age, but the people at the sanctuart weren't two sure, they estimated about five years old. She was just found on the streets and picked up by a dog warden. We were thinking of calling her Sasha, but until we get her, and get to know her i'm not to sure.....but Sasha is the only name my partner and I can agree on lol.

It was very heartbreaking when I went to look for a dog though, there were so many there, mostly mongrels. Why can't people get dogs speyed etc, if they can't afford it they can get help. Sigh, I just hope people will find those other dogs home's..... I wish I had room for them all!!

Congratulations on your girl.:) We're the same about wanting to take em all home - our 4 kids want a dog each. Fortunately common sense prevails.

I know what you mean, before we bought Toby we looked at rescue homes, you just want to take them all home dont you but we decided to be sensible and wait for a dog that suited us.

unfortunatly common sense does prevail..... that and good strong will power!

The price check on a decent complete food helps too ! SB nearly fainted when he collected our Hills Science Diet 7.5 kilo bag. :D

My hubbie nearly fainted when he asked the me price of the hills natural 15 kg sack I bought, I should have done what me and the eldest son do with his trainers... half the price and add a couple of quid for luck!!!! :D

Yeah I know what you mean about food, for both dogs and cats. The cats at the moment are on Iams and thats pricey enough, my partner can't believe i splash out on that, but if its for the good of their health money is no object.......wish it was the same for other people who take in dogs and then dump them "sigh"
