That sounds about right, the Americans seem to want to breed miniature versions as they also breed Miniature Aussies.

I suddenly had a brain wave (say nothing please:-) )
I did read about a rottweiler that was a dwarf, cant remember who or where it was but i did read it.

I have been in touch with some American rottie breeders and they confirmed what i thought, that there is no such thing as a miniature rottweiler.
Why does your vet say yours is a mini rott ?
how old is he/she and how big??
I must admit this does have me very interested.

Was your vet just joking ?.I guess he did not expect you would ask further .I never heard of one myself I bet its real cute . How did you come by this little guy .did you decide you wanted a rottie and buy him from a breeder or is he from a person who just gave him to you ?

This is a cross between a Pekinese and a miniature Pincher. Not one drop of Rottie blood in them.
I did a little research on the skeletal and muscular configuration of the mix that makes up the Mini Rottie. The mix is a Pekinese and a Mini Pincher. These two breeds have very different muscular and skeletal configurations even though their weight is generally the same.

The Mini Pincher is lighter boned and carries the majority of their weight in the chest neck and head. Their back hips are slighter, designed to handle approximately 25% of their body weight. The Pekinese, on the other hand is a little bigger boned and capable of carrying more weight in the rear. Approximately forty percent.

Now, if one of these puppies is born with the skeletal formation of the Mini Pincher and the muscular distribution of the Pekinese, you could find this dog having some serious hip and back issues as they get older.

Pug, not Peke.

These mini rottweillers almost has the comedic value of a mini mastiff aka puggle (pug cross beagle). They could call them punchers.

After looking for quite awhile I was able to find someone in the US that actually breeds them.

Here is the link. Please note these are all Hybrids.

Mogey - a  hybrid is a cross between two dissimilar species (such as a wolf and a dog) these dogs are cross breeds (or mutts ;))
- By Moonmaiden Date 13.11.05 09:50 UTC

>In genetics, a hybrid is the result of a cross between two genetically dissimilar parents. The offspring of unlike parents. If the parents are sufficiently dissimilar, the hybrid may be sterile (for example, in the crossing of horse and donkey to produce a mule). <

;)

Digger - wolves and dogs are genetically identical!
- By digger [gb] Date 13.11.05 15:24 UTC
Genetically very similar but NOT identical.........
