Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Weimaraner Pee Problem

We have a 3 year old Weimaraner dog who was totally house trained, with no problem. But now he has decided he will pee anywhere in the house. Nothing has changed in his routine, he can go all night without any accidents and if we are out all day he is fine. But if we are in with him all day, he pee's anywhere. Even if we have taken him for a walk, two hours later he will pee in the house. He knows he is doing wrong, but he just continues to pee. He will even go into his bed to do this as well. He is a very timid dog, so if we shout at him it just makes him worse. Please can anyone help, we just don't know what to do.

This does not sound like a case of retraining. It sounds as if the dog needs to visit the vet. Have you taken him there already? If the vet says nothing is wrong, start training him all over again. Good luck!!

First of all dogs do not "know" they are doing wrong. They know what is safe and what is not. Secondly please do not shout at your dog; it may relieve your feelings of frustration but again, the dog does understand "shouting" and, if your dog is timid (which is something a weimaraner should NOT be; the standard says, "fearless, friendly, protective and alert") shouting is the last thing you should be doing. In fact some dogs actually urinate from fear.

Please check that your dog has not got a urinary infection; if he has, urinating will be beyond his control anyway and be distressing to him; no amount of shouting on your part will have any effect on this and only cause further distress to your dog; can you help coughing if you have a cough?

Of course it is annoying but you owe it to your dog to discover the cause rather than react to the symptoms.
