Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Older dogs and crate training

I am trying to introduce my 2 spaniels to a large crate so that when I help out at the local dog training club ,or work either of them, I can pop them in the crate rather than in the car - they are happy in the car but during winter it would be very cold at night. I swop the dogs about but when I tried to leave my 1 year old in the crate he barked constantly, I had left him a stuffed kong etc. but he was not interested. I had introduced them to the crate using clicker training but how do I get them to stay in the crate without barking??
Any advice would be welcome, they love their training so I would rather not take them week about, if my springer thought I had gone training without her she wouldnt talk to me for days.
