Small dog thinks she is an express train - we have tried everything over the course of several years: training, more training, rewards, bribery, walking backwards, turning, being a "tree", ordinary collar (choking), half check (even more strangulated choking) body harness ( wow, really efficient pulling!) etc etc. We have really put so much consistent effort into taming our furry tugboat but are now throwing in the towel. We admit defeat - last chance seems to be a headcollar. We have resisted using one because she has a very short muzzle and we were worried one would irritate her eyes if it rode up. Also someone told us that headcollars should not be used on soft mouthed dogs like spaniels. Please can someone advise best type of headcollar for a small determined slightly dog aggressive Cavalier ? Please help so that I can resume life with both arms the same length. (Please don't recomment pinch or prong or shock collars - need I say more ?)
Thankyou.
PS She walks beautifully to heel off- lead. Contrary little mutt.
Hi, I see a Cav at dog training who used to wear a Gentle Leader headcollar without any bother. GLs tend to ride up or slip sideways unlike Dogmatic leather headcollars which other posters here use. Dont know what the soft mouth has to do with it as the headcollar acts on the nose and back of the head. You need to accustom them to the hc by putting it on for feeding or other pleasant things at home first - like a pups first collar and lead. :)
