We are in chaos at the moment as we are ripping our kitchen out (we have to have the floor levelled before the new kitchen is installed in 3 weeks). Tara has started being a monster again, barking at people. Could she be upset by all the disruption ? She and Bramble spend a lot of their time in the kitchen. Has anyone else had a similar thing happen to their dog ?
Obviously we are keeping her on the lead again and starting back at basics again :( It's very disappointing as I thought that we were getting somewhere with her :(
Thanks

Yes - it's very probable that the change in her surroundings has up set her - you may also see a set back in the toilet training, and maybe an increase in chewing and other destructive behaviours (and if you're having plastering done that can also trigger toilet problems in some dogs). It would be unfair to punish her, and going back to basics and keeping calm is the best way of helping her through this IMHO.
Lucky you though - a new kitchen - I'm still dreaming of getting the plaster work back on the wall after hubby decided to TRY and fit a new extractor fan before last Christmas..........

Hope not with the toilet training - she is 17 months :D But she is a nervous dog and hubbie has been making a lot of noise with his pneumatic drill :( I have got them booked into kennels when the actual kitchen is fitted, but this floor levelling was unexpected and hubbie and I are having to rip the kitchen out ourselves and do the necessary wiring etc by tomorrow (only found out yesterday) :( Just got the cooker and sink to rip out and then move everything out of the kitchen. Hope that she doesn't start chewing again either as the new kitchen was partly necessary as she had chewed the old one :D
Hey ho - only 3 weeks of 'camping' to go Fortunately means 3 weeks of take-aways or ready meals - no cooking :D
Thanks - things are a bit stressed here and needed a moan.

Daisy we have recently had a loft conversion and a new kitchen done and I must admit our girls (3 Labs were fine !)
The builder actually spent a lot of time fussing them and playing and was nit at all surprised amongst all the progress digi photos of the building work, some of the girls all sat on the sofa with the builder ! :)
I am sure she will settle down once it is all finished !

Daisy - good luck with Tara - and the new kitchen!
You know that Aussies are territorial - and she is protecting "her" kitchen (including the floor) from damage!

Thanks :) Tara is very territorial - that includes the field next to our house as well :( Everything is different for them at the moment as they aren't allowed in the kitchen at all - they sleep there normally - Tara is having to sleep in the lounge in her cage (in case she decides to chew anything !) - she doesn't normally sleep in it.
The barking is much worse - she chased a man as he was walking across the field - we had been playing ball at one side, she normally is totally engrossed in the game, but yesterday she just kept charging, full pelt, back and forth after this chap and I couldn't get her back at all :( Fortunately he took it quite well, but it really shook me up, so she is going to stay on the lead indefinitely until I am sure that we have cured the problem :( Her general obedience has been a lot better, so I normally have control of her (or at least can call her back and put her on the lead before her barking starts).
