Before you start thinking about a stud fee, you should be getting him health checked for any breed specific problems and considering whether he is good enough for breeding. Have you entered and won at dog shows, have you studied the breed standard and found out what lines will be compatible? Breeding dogs is not just about a stud fee.

It is not whether you are interested in using your dog at stud but whether other people are! The fact that he is AKC registered is no guarantee of quality, health, temperament or type. Have you had him assessed for any of these, hip scored, eye tested and has he won in the show ring or in the field.

The aim of breeders is to improve the breed not to make money (or else it should be)!

Stud fee will be dependent on all the above and if he is "proven" or not. Also as a stud dog owner you will be expected to supervise mating etc; do you have the experience and knowledge?
