Topic Dog Boards / Health / Poor Molly
- By gina [gb] Date 01.10.03 11:58 UTC
As some of you may have read Molly was being sick a while back which thankfully stopped.

Unfortunately she started being sick again Sunday at 2.35am onwards so we took her back to the vet. Not the same sort of sickness as she had before this time it wasnt just bile. She was sick again on Monday night so today she went in for an x-ray etc. The vet found a small blockage in her gut which they believe is the cause of the sickness so they are going to keep her in overnight, giving her liquid paraffin to see if it shifts. If not my baby has to have surgery tomorrow.

I am so upset and am sitting here in work in tears trying to pretend I am okay. She is so little and my husband has told me that Barney is racing round the house and garden looking for her and he won't eat now either wondering where she is.

I will let those who would like to know how she is tomorrow.

A very miserable Gina x

Oh Gina - sorry to hear about poor little Molly. I remember how worried you were about her last time.
I wonder what has caused the blockage ? Whatever it is I'm sure it can be sorted, hopefully without the surgery. But if the op proves necessary at least it will be over and done with.
Do let us know how she gets on. I'm sure you'll be giving Barney extra cuddles tonight - it's so sad when they don't understand what's happening isn't it ?

Hoping for good news tomorrow - try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know :) )

Thanks to you all. It is SO quiet here. Barney doesnt bark that much but Molly is a noisy little devil and everytime we go out of the room he thinks we are coming back with her.

Just rang the vets (again!) who said that she was happy and they had given her a light meal to see if she kept it down and I was to ring in the morning. They are not a 24 hour vet but I take it that someone is there with her of a night - does anyone know? More to worry about otherwise. I dunno I feel so bad at the moment. Will tel. again in the morning and let you know.

Thanks again - a bit better Gina x

Edited to say oops this should have come up at the end!! :p

Oh poor you, Gina. :( Fingers crossed the liquid paraffin will shift it. Let us know how she gets on.
- By Christine Date 01.10.03 14:13 UTC
Oh Gina try not to worry she`ll be OK & the liquid paraffin might shift it. It probably depends on where the obstruction is but when it happened to Bonnie the vet tried to get it out when he did the endoscopy so maybe thats something to ask your vet if he could try before surgery? Mind she had to have surgery anyway cos he couldn`t get it out but she made a full recovery:)
Horrible when they`re away, house is too quiet isn`t it? But you`ll have to make a big fuss of Barney & time will soon fly & she`ll be back before you know it :) Let`s know what happens.

Oh well I am not sure what to think now. Molly was still sick so they operated this morning. Vet just rang to say there was no obstruction or foreign body but bit constipated. So they have cleared her out and she will have to stay in until tomorrow to see if she stops being sick now and they are hoping she has just swallowed/eaten something that has upset her. BUT her pancreas is inflamed so if she is sick again they will take blood tests tomorrow to see what is wrong with her pancreas. Does anyone know what is going on please??? I am sure she is not diabetic as they could easily find this out now couldnt they from urine/sugar level etc?

Barney wont get out of his basket he is missing her so much. The only time he does is if he hears a noise and he will run looking for her around the garden, the house and barking in case she is upstairs. Poor thing - he feels as bad as me I think.

Hi Gina, I do hope they find out what's wrong soon - you must be worried sick. :( Poor Barney, too.
- By Christine Date 02.10.03 13:28 UTC
Hi Gina, see what your vet thinks first, I`m sure if he thought diabetes he would have tested & told you.
Hope Molly gets better now :)

Hi Christine, that is why I am a bit bothered. I had a cat with diabetes and I said to vet I spoke to on Tues who operated on her today that I would never do it again keeping an animal alive with diabetes but Molly hasnt got any of the symptoms ie drinking too much etc. And |I think if they knew it was diabetes they would have told me so I am worried and hate to say I am so upset i am slightly peed at the moment, spent all night playing with Barney and talking to Marie who has rung me up - bless her - I cant wait til tomorrow now cos I want to see her and the vet said better not visit her and upset her. I miss her so much and I always seem in such control but I am not .........

Gina, most of us look like we`re in contol but in reality like the gliding serene duck.....paddling like hell underneath the water!!!! We aren`t in control all the time you know :) At the moment your vet doesn`t seem to know what the prob is with molly so maybe further tests are needed etc, all you can do is keep calm for all your sakes & do the best your doing & wait for results or further investigations. I personally would go visit my dogs but you need to know how Molly would be if you did visit her ie, would she be worse off or better for it?????
Chin up :)

So now there is hope again, great :) Love mari

SHE'S HOME :d :d :D :D :D :D :D :D

Barney was so excited to see her and she promptly bit him on the nose - poor love. But he has kept well away now and she is resting so may have been a good thing LOL

The blood tests showed nothing at all only that the pancreas was a bit inflamed but nothing else and the AB's should sort that.

Thanks everyone you helped me a lot and I am now over the moon :p :p

Gina xxxxxxx

PS edited to say and Sober :)

Give her lots of love and I hope she feels a bit better soon.

So pleased she is home, you will be feeling so pleased that in the end she seems to be on the mend. Why do we put ourselves through all this by thinking the worst, quess it is so we can feel extra pleased when we are proved wrong. :)
- By gina [gb] Date 04.10.03 12:36 UTC
May be Jackie LOL

Thanks Crazyspaniel and Christine x

Only one thing bothering me a bit she has only had one little pee last night and none today - does this seem alright?

She has had small amounts of boiled chicken/rice and a tiny bit of scrambled egg to hide the AB. She is drinking regular small amounts.

Sorry if I am a pain!!!

Gina :)
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 04.10.03 12:58 UTC
Gina, cook some chicken in lots of water and then liquidise it and feed to the bitch as often as she will take it. This will help get the system going again, you need to increase the amount of liquid she is taking.

love to Molly and you Gina
