buying a cocker puppy mother and pups look great.mothrr is 5 but not had her eyes tested for the clear eye cert.owner is a one off breeder . any comments on this.

Cockers have both Central Progressive Retinal Atrophy and Generalised Progressive Retinal Atrophy, also very occasonaly Glaucoma.

Sorry but any reputable breeder who has done their homework on the breed should have had their bitch eye-tested for PRA before being bred from. It doesn't matter whether this is a one-off litter or not. The same goes for the sire of the litter of course - both parents should have current clear eye certificates before being bred from. It is entirely up to you whether you buy a puppy from a breeder who hasn't eye-tested - even those breeders who do care enough to eye-test cannot guarantee their pups won't ever develop PRA but at least they have done what they can for their dogs & the breed by testing.
