I would like to get a border terrier to replace my Patterdale (who went West with my ex-partner). Unfortunately I'm at work 8-9 hours a day, so would it be better to get 2 borders? If I get 2 borders, should I get a one of each sex or two of one sex? Also, would it be better to try and rehome 2 rescue dogs together or to get puppies? All advice would be very welcome.

Personally, I would never recommend taking on two puppies (of any breed) from the same litter. You might find it helpful to contact BT Welfare and have a chat about your options, before you make any decisions.

Contact the Welfare Co~Ordinator:
Mrs.O'Grady on Tel/Fax: 01983 865370.

Hope this helps. :-)

talking from my own experience i would NEVER got two puppies together again!!! and although i was never advised against it at the time, i don't think i'd have quite believed it until i experienced it.

we did have two westies, ellie came first (when she was 12 weeks) then six months later we got heidi (she was also 12 weeks), they got on tremendously and we never had any training etc problems with them whatsover.

we tragically lost ells and heidi last year.

in january this year we got two westie puppies and the nightmare began!!! have had problems and it basically it boiled down to the fact that they were too wrapped up in each other, they had each other for company, play and fun, what were we there for?? only to provide food!! i could go on to explain far more fully and detailed but don't want to bore everyone to tears, i will email u if you wish..

having said that i would never have a dog on its own again, although i would wait until the first pup was, in the case of a westie, about 9m -12m before getting the 2nd.

PLEASE, PLEASE THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT GETTING TWO PUPPIES TOGETHER AND FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME!

Hi guest.

Have to say I would be very surprised if any reputatable border terrier breeder would sell you two puppies from the same litter, or indeed at all if they are to left alone for 8-9 hours a day. I would suggest that you think a little bit more about your lifestyle before contemplating a puppy!!!!

Sorry to be so blunt, but borders are very difficult to come by and need an awful lot of time an attention if they are to become well socialised and boredom could result in them being very destructive and barking and howling, causing problems with neighbours.

If you would like to e-mail me personally I would be happy to explain in more detail.

Regards
Dazzle
