Hi all,

It's my first time here so hello everyone!! My question is can anyone help or advise please! My dog seems to be drinking an awful lot of water lately. Over the last 2 days his drinking on average 6 large bowls of water a day his having no more exercise than he is used to and is doing nothing out of the ordinary. Obviously I shall be visiting the vet, but as this sight is absolutley excellent I thought I'd tryn here first.

Any help, advice or pointers are gratefully received.

Hello Garry, welcome to the board.

You are right to be worried with him drinking that volume of water. He may have a urine infection, so when you go to the vets take a sample of his urine in a sterile container. A jar that has been rinsed in boiling water shoud be fine. You don't say when you are going, but I would make an appointment quickly.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Garry, Obviously the breed is important, 6 big bowls for a Yorkie is a little different to 6 big bowls for a Bull Mastive! ;) Again the age could have a baring on it. In an older bitch or even dog (Slightly less likely) Diabetes could be a possibility. A urine sample would give a good guide to a vet.

Best wishes, John

Well worth mentioning Sandra! The vet will be well impressed if Garry were to turn up with a urine sample to hand - and also prevents having to wait that little bit longer for any test results - let us know how you get on Garry.
