Topic Dog Boards / Health / Information on Open Fontanelle

Does any one have any experience of a puppy with an open fontanelle. I have just returned from the vets and all puppies have been declared fit and well apart from the little baby of the litter who has an open fontanelle. Although she is developing well and is showing no signs of excessive sleepiness or depression, the vet is of the opinion that it may not close naturally. We have discussed the options but at this point there is no need to do anything as she is happy and well otherwise.

Does anyone have any experience of this and the possible outcomes?

the last one is a bit heavy going but explains why dogs with open fontanelle should not be bred from

Thanks for the links but please rest assured that there is now way that this bitch will be bred from. We are keeping her ourselves and I'll just be happy if she survives.

I didn't intend to imply you were going to breed from her just that the last link is quite heavy going & really needs to be printed off & read

Glad you are keeping one & paws crossed for her from what I have read it could just close later than the others Apparently it happens in dome headed breeds like chihuahuas etc
