our 6 mo. border terrier will not eat his food but he LOVES his treats. he used to jump up and down liike a pogo stick when it was meal time and now he just pokes at the bowl and looks up at us as if we are punishing him. he still loves his biscuits (which we have held back completely in hopes that it would get him eating his normal food). we changed his food about three weeks ago (for the third time) and that seemed to fix it, but now he is back to picking and poking. it seems to be a behavioural issue... one that i am not very keen on. any advice is appreciated.
thanks.
Hi Greg
Nice to see you back again.
You certainly have the unusual, a fussy Border Terrier, mine are like hoovers only time they are ever off their food is if they are ill :-)
It could well be that his back teeth are still coming through and are hurting him when he chews so soaking the food for a short while might help. Or a really good tip is to put a little water on the food, zap in the microwave to warm it, this brings out the taste.
I think changing foods is not the best way to go at all, if he was mine I would put his bowl down if not eaten within 10 minutes pick it up, same at next feed etc. etc. no titbits at all in between times.
I promise he won't starve himself.:-)

hi jayne,
thanks. i'll try all that. it was puzzling to me too... however, he has lost a lot of teeth in the past few weeks so it may be connected to that. we have absolutely fallen in love with this breed!
